Powerpoint presentation on how to Observe children in the Early Years. Designed mainly for classroom assistants, but could be tweaked to present to parents and other staff at school. Suggest staff go through the training, then look at any observations they have already completed, as well as complete a joint/paired observation, and then discuss what is exactly required.

Characteristics of Effective Learning and Areas of Learning statements for Foundation Stage (EYFS 2012) children. I was inspired by a local EYFS teacher and their school's learning journeys to produce these. They will also be laminated and placed onto a ring to be carried by the staff during observations. Covers counting, subitising, calculating, language of number, early addition. Very useful for improving subject knowledge, and for use when assessing children's ability levels and next steps.

An introduction (based on Scholastic's Festival Facts Holi) ton the Hindu festival of Holi. To be used in conjunction with the story of Prahlad and Holika. Holi is the festival of colours, and is celebrated with the throwing of coloured powder and water.

iPod/iPad themed activity for transition day. Children to design their own iPod/iPad apps to describe themselves as a person. Could then be used as a first display in the class, ready before they start in September. Differentiated so suitable from EYFS up to upper KS2. Idea taken from Pinterest, but updated to include differentiation across the primary age.

Moderation prompt form for pupil progress meetings. Simple table ensuring that learning journeys are consistent, and analysis of percentage of progress made that term. Good progress of 78 points / average scale point of 6 per area of learning. Analysis of class make-up: SEN, G&T, EAL, LAC, FSM etc. Reasons for v high/low profile scores and any future CPD needs. Useful as a summary for the EYFS Co-ordinator when talking to SLT/HT/OFSTED/LA Profile Manager.

Action plans/school development plan templates based around the Every Child Matters outcomes. To be completed by Nursery Manager/staff, Headteacher/teaching staff together or independently, and then share outcomes. Q-Cards are the Leicester City Council’s response to action planning for OFSTED (Q for Quality & Risk Analysis)

Reading age chart for the Young Reading Test, and equivalent scores for the Burt, Schonell and Vernon graded word reading tests.

Two different pictures of hearts to be cut up and put back together. Suggestions of simple random acts of kindness they could do. Also a blank heart template for children to create their own ideas.

An assessment tool to be used on all new arrivals to the school, to all initial concerns/low achievers and also across all SEN pupils. The SLCN screen helps to focus on the needs of the individual (if any). To be used in conjunction with the Leicester City Meeting Individual Needs SLCN manual.

Apologies if already uploaded - I couldn't find it. This is my LA's current tracker system to cover the whole of the EYFS in its current state. The only bit missing is scale points 9 on the profile. This will be changed once the LA study the new Development Matters and get the new ELG format for the 2013 profile.
